The Carpenter area was expanded with the closing of Madison School in the 1980’s. This area is looked at as West of Dee and East of Dee. The West of Dee area (formally served by Madison School) has many home built in the 1950s. The lots are usually standard size (50 x 125). This area is close to Maine Park pond and recreation area, Murphy Lake (a private lake with many spectacular homes) and Oakton Ice rink.
The homes are moderately priced. The Dee Road Train station is conveniently located and makes for an easy train ride to downtown Chicago. The Cook County forest preserves are across Riverside Drive. Great biking and hiking are an area benefit. East of Dee Road is the traditional Carpenter area. There are more homes here from the 1950’s. Lots are standard size. Walking distance to the local Jewel food store, the community center and the senior center are benefits of this area.
